Can you get free food in the U.K?
There's no free lunch in Freetown but here's how to get free food in the U.K.
Hi there,
First and foremost, I’m not a fan of free food. The African man in me would rather earn my money and use it to feed than go get free food somewhere.
However, I understand that not everyone thinks like me, and truth be told, I’ve seen a Nigerian family of 4 who newly came to the U.K benefit a lot from the services of a food bank.
I applaud the work these food banks are doing. I beleive their services are essential especially at this time when there’s a cost of living crises. They’re helping a lot of individuals and families feed so if you can afford it, pledge, donate, volunteer to support a local foodbank in your community just like I have done in the past.
It will make you feel good that you’re supporting humanity.
On this same topic, I came across a video on that has a lot of resources that Nigerians in the U.K can use to support themselves.

A side note: Please beware of public funds as for most people, your visa says NO PUBLIC FUNDS. - You no want wahala! Ask first. If it is public funds, I’ll advice you don’t take it.
A quick win for you are these 2 free food/stuff apps in the UK: Too Good to go & Olio. With Too Good to go, you can use it to buy really good food from top outlets for very cheap while for the second one, people give out both food and non food items.
What you’ll find depends on your location.
Next time we will talk about building your credit score and why it is important if you want to be financially advantaged here in the U.K.
I hope this helped? If it did, please share this post with other Nigerians in the U.K and encourage them to join us. Our mission is to inspire and empower the Nigerian diaspora by sharing the right information and fostering a vibrant community.
